The Rainbow Tourism Group’s planned hotel for Beitbridge is still on course for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
RTG as part of its promotion for regional tourism is planning to construct a three star hotel south of the country as it endeavours to tap on the anticipated surge of tourists as a result of the soccer tournament.
This hotel would also be strategic as it is positioned along the main route used by tourists who may visit Zimbabwe from South Africa by road,
“In promoting regional tourism, RTG is scheduled to construct a three star hotel in Beitbridge. The games draw closer and this will ensure the group’s participation in the provision of accommodation for the games. Certain sections of the hotel are expected to be ready by mid 2010, in time for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa,” said RTG.
It has been suggested that the hotel group is progressing at a very slow pace and may miss out on the world cup tournament.
In as much as the hotel would be strategically located, opening its doors in time for the 2010 world cup would have been a bonus as it would mean more cash generated for the hotel group.
Apart from the construction of the hotel in the border town, RTG said it had managed to secure some contracts within the region.
“RTG continues to reaffirm its position as a global tourism player through the adoption and implementation of various business strategies such as management contracts, strategic alliances and expansion. The group has managed to export the rainbow brand regionally through skills transfer by way of management contracts. In terms of regional expansion, the group has managed to establish regional presence through management of two hotels in the Copper Belt in Zambia,” added the group.
