TM Supermarket has reopened its Borrowdale branch located at the upmarket Sam Levy Village.
This branch was closed down last year following a fire which destroyed part of the building. However, despite the slight setback, the retail giant has reopened its doors as it seeks to capitalise on the changing economic environment.
The Borrowdale branch has a very stable and upper income earners as its catchment area.
Announcing the reopening of the branch, TM Supermarket said there is a lot of customer convenience which is provided.
“The shop is spacious, with a wide range of products and we have 20 tills prepared to serve the customers.
“The opening hours are also convenient as we open at 7 in the morning and close at 8 in the evening each day of the week,” said TM.
TM has a competitive edge over other players in the retail sector as it is part to the diversified listed concern Kingdom Meikles Africa Limited. As a member to the group, TM supermarkets enjoy and offers instore banking as well as point of sale facilities for those who hold accounts with Kingdom Bank.
Kingdom Bank is the banking wing of the diversified giant.
TM’s reopening of the Borrowdale branch is testimony that things are easing and the operating environment is getting better. Last year the retail giant buckled under stress and closed some of its branches for example one along Nelson Mandela in the central business district of the capital. This area has since been occupied by a rival retail group.
TM and OK, two of the country’s largest and listed retail shops were some of the hardest hit by the economic meltdown especially during 2008. The two shops closed down some of their branches and retrenched some of the their workers. However, both shops are showing signs of quick recovery with shelves at almost all branches now fully packed. This is not to say things are now back at the normal levels as for example OK did not run its traditional grand challenge which usually start in winter ending with the coming in of summer. This is the third successive year that OK has failed to run the grand challenge.
