Zelco cuts tarrifs

Staff Reporter 02-06-2009

Zellco Cellular, an agent of NetOne, has reduced phone bills by 30 percent for the period January to April this year. This is aimed at alleviating the burden on the customers.

“Following extensive consultation between Zellco Cellular, NetOne our customers and other stakeholders we would like to advise our clients that all our customer bills from 1st January, 2009 to 14th March, 2009 shall be discounted by 30 percent. This benefit shall only be enjoyed by our valued customers whose accounts sall be credited with 30 percent of their airtime bill over the same period,” said Zellco.

All existing Zellco Cellular account holders are entitled to this benefit.

“This move has been taken in recognition of the challenges faced by our valued clients due to the change over to foreign currency denominated tariffs,” added the company.

A move to reduce the bills by 30 percent is very understandable especially in the context of the challenges many phone users faced when the service was charged in hard currency.

There was an outcry from customers as some bills were at around US$1 000 a figure many said was too much for the use of a mobile phone in a month.
